Webinar Recap: Key Lessons from CPG’s 30-Day Fuel Logistics Implementation

Fuel logistics implementation should be smooth and speed. Titan Cloud completed CPG's integration in 30 days.

Data-driven automation is increasingly enabling mid-market and enterprise retailers alike to compete in a fast-moving market. Acquiring the right technology has become critical, as has ensuring a smooth and speedy platform implementation to maximize ROI quickly.

In our recent webinar, Titan Cloud’s Director of Implementation Amanda Brock and Senior Enterprise Customer Success Manager Jeff Sexten sat down with Chris DeCarlo, Director of Fuel Pricing and Transportation for Capitol Petroleum Group to discuss CPG’s Titan Cloud implementation experience. CPG is a fast-growing Mid Atlantic fuel distributor and retailer operating across 228 sites and growing; they’ve been a Titan Cloud customer since October 2024.

Here are some highlights from their conversation, “Capitol Petroleum Group’s 30-Day Fuel Logistics Implementation: Key Lessons.”

Targeting the Problem

A successful technology strategy starts with identifying what problem the software needs to solve. In the case of CPG, multiple acquisitions led to scaling logistical inefficiencies that were costing the company revenue. They urgently needed systems visibility and improved fuel management.

“Without real time data, our team had struggled to track transit issues, resulting in reactive scheduling and management, inefficient load planning and increased run-out risk. We needed to align our operations, sales trends, delivery schedules and inventory levels into an integrated system,” DeCarlo explained. “Using Titan, we can now project demand hourly and 24 hours out, giving dispatchers the insight they need to prevent runouts before they happen. We also have much better visibility into demand fluctuation. We can test and refine pricing strategy more effectively; while on the logistics side, we have a flexible and user-friendly delivery planning dashboard.”

Experts to Guide the Way

A company in high growth mode, CPG needed to get up and running quickly with their new platform, including testing systems and onboarding their teams. Brock explained the synchronized implementation strategy used to make that happen.

“Our customer experience starts with a strategic account manager who stays with the customer through the whole journey post contract signature, including implementation. In this case, that was Jeff Sexten. My implementation team then worked with CPG to configure a system to best fit their needs and to train their team on best practices,” she said. “Our customer success team then helped, and continues to help, to ensure that CPG’s team sees the value of our solutions and are using the system to the best of their ability. Titan Cloud’s combination of implementation, customer success and support is really a proven group of individuals and teams that are there to set our customers up for success.”

CPG’s Results

Later in the webinar, attendees were invited to ask questions of our panelists. One of the first was about DeCarlo’s fuel logistics implementation experience. Specifically, how soon after rollout did CPG see real improvements like fewer runouts or better delivery planning.

“Because we had already been using Titan for maintenance and compliance, I knew the transition would be easy, and it was. We saw improvements almost immediately, within the first week,” DeCarlo said. “Once they trained my team and dispatchers on how to update the delivery ETAs and how to look for problem areas, we were able to start proactively managing our logistics instead of sitting back and waiting for a station call us. The benefit was tremendous and immediate.”

Implementation Best Practices

Another attendee directed a two-part question to Brock. What, they asked, really helps a rollout go smoothly and quickly, with everyone on the team aligned? And what challenges might trip up a customer along the way?

“At Titan Cloud, our implementations go very well because we view the customer’s team as the subject matter experts. We ensure that we truly understand their business needs, and then we use that information to set up a successful environment to meet those needs. Through weekly meetings, we prioritize communication with the team members every step of the way,” Brock said. “In terms of challenges, I generally see customers trip up earlier on in the process, when it comes to the change management part of implementing a new software or a new module. My team is great with understanding that mindset change, and communicating that yes, this is new, but there are ways we can help you work through it so you can experience the benefits.”
